Frequently Asked Questions

What is Assisted Living?
Assisted living is a combination of housing, supportive services, personal assistance, and health services designed to respond to the individual needs of those who need help with activities of daily living.

How is assisted living regulated?

Iowa law requires assisted living programs to be certified and monitored by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (IDIA) in order to operate in the state of Iowa. On-site inspections are completed every two years for recertification.

Who lives in assisted living?

The average resident at Maggie’s House is 88 and female. Our residents are primarily from DeWitt and other nearby small towns. There are people that require little to no assistance and move here simply for the security and convenience of housekeeping and meals. There are others that need more personal assistance with tasks such as bathing, dressing and using the bathroom.

Are apartments furnished?

Rooms are unfurnished. A small refrigerator and microwave are included in each apartment. All other furnishings are brought in by the resident to make it feel like home.

How Does Assisted Living Differ from Other Levels of care?

Unlike nursing homes and other medical facilities, assisted living facilities allow residents to maintain a sense of independence and involvement in a social community, while at the same time provide the assistance with daily life.
